Woman killed, infant hospitalized after SUV crashes into tree on I-75

A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 left a 63-year-old Gainesville woman dead and an infant injured on Monday morning.

The fatal crash occurred at around 7:30 a.m. on I-75 northbound, near mile marker 402, in Alachua County.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman and three-month-old baby were traveling northbound on the interstate in a white Nissan SUV when the vehicle veered across the eastbound shoulder of the roadway.

Moments later, the SUV collided with a large tree before overturning.

The driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her name was not released by FHP.

The infant passenger was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville for treatment of injuries that were deemed “minor.”

No further details were provided regarding the cause of the accident.

An FHP trooper noted in the report that the crash is currently under investigation.
