Eugene Middleton Thomas of Dunnellon, FL, passed away on May 7, 2024 in Ocala, FL. Eugene was born in Elkhart, Indiana and was the son to the late Eugene Franklin and Marjorie Joyce Thomas.

Eugene attended Bowie State University and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in education. He also attended the University of Virginia and received his second graduate degree. Eugene taught in Indiana and Maryland for over thirty years. In 1995, Eugene received several excellence in Education awards.

He was a member of the Mt. Hermon Masonic Lodge # 179 in Hyattsville, Maryland, Fort King Daylight Lodge # 389 and was a perpetual member of the Dunnellon Masonic Lodge #136 and Dunnellon Eastern Star, Chapter #235. He was also a life member of the American Legion Wall-Rives Post # 58 in Dunnellon. For several years he served as a chaplain in the Masons, Eastern Star, and the American Legion.

Eugene had been a member of the Marion County County Master Gardener program and a life member of the Marion County Humane Society. He was a president of the Herman B. Oberman Library Board and a tutor/mentor for the Marion Regional Juvenile Detention Center.

Eugene is survived by his best friend and wife, Anne-Marie; his son, William E. Thomas; his many good friends and beloved pets, Carrie Anne Thomas (Cat) and Sean Brisket.
