An 18-year-old Dunnellon man was killed early Sunday morning after his motorcycle struck a car that was turning at an intersection in southwest Ocala.

The fatal crash occurred at around 1:35 a.m. on Sunday, June 2, at the intersection of State Road 200 and SW 17th Street.

According to the Ocala Police Department, an Audi car was traveling westbound on State Road 200. There was an “unprotected green light” when the driver reached the intersection of SW 17th Street, and they attempted to make a left turn.

OPD stated that a Harley Davidson Sportster motorcycle was heading eastbound in the inside lane of State Road 200 while approaching the same intersection. There was a “solid green light,” and the motorcycle proceeded to enter the intersection.

Moments later, the car turned directly into the motorcycle’s path, and a collision ensued. According to Ocala police, the front of the motorcycle struck the car’s right front corner.

“Speed did not appear to be a factor (in the crash),” stated OPD in a social media post on Sunday.

The Dunnellon man was the sole occupant of the motorcycle, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, according to police.

“Our condolences go out the young man’s family and friends as (they) deal with the tragedy,” stated OPD.

The driver of the car was transported to a local hospital, and they had “no indicators of impairment,” according to the police department.

The individuals involved in the crash were not identified by law enforcement.
