Heavy traffic congestion has been reported along Interstate 75 in Marion County on Sunday afternoon as evacuees of Hurricane Milton continue returning south.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, the the southbound lanes of I-75 between Exit 341 (County Road 484) and mile marker 357 have seen heavy traffic congestion since at least 11 a.m. this morning.

FDOT Cameras on the highway at mile markers 341, 355, and 357 all show cars backed up on the highway.

Ocala-News.com reported similar congestion on Thursday and Friday.

The congestion is due to residents returning home to south Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton

As of Sunday morning, thousands of residents were still without power in Marion County.
