The driver of a Chevrolet Camaro was arrested by Ocala police following an alleged street race with two motorcycles on State Road 200.

On Friday, October 4, at around 10:45 p.m., an Ocala Police Department officer responded to the 5100 block of State Road 200 to assist with a traffic stop.

According to the arrest report, an OPD sergeant was on patrol near the 4600 block of State Road 200 when a black Chevrolet Camaro was observed “engaging in competitive racing with two motorcycles.”

The report stated that the Camaro “accelerated rapidly” on State Road 200 as the sergeant attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle. The Camaro eventually came to a stop in the 5100 block of the roadway, and the sergeant made contact with the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle: Julio Garcia, 47, of Ocala.

Shortly after the officer arrived at the scene of the traffic stop, Garcia was ordered to exit the Camaro, and he was placed under arrest. He spontaneously “apologized for racing,” according to the report.

Garcia was transported to Marion County Jail, and he was released the following day after posting a $1,000 bond. He is being charged with participating in an unlawful race on a highway.

On Tuesday, November 5, Garcia is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m., according to jail records.

No further details were provided in the report regarding the motorcyclists who were allegedly involved in the street race on State Road 200.
