An Ocala resident recently turned $50 into $1 million after purchasing a winning Florida Lottery scratch-off ticket from a local Publix.
On Thursday, October 24, the Florida Lottery announced that William Doughty of Ocala stopped by its Gainesville District Office to claim a $1 million prize from the 500X THE CASH scratch game.
Doughty chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000.
The winning scratch-off ticket was purchased by Doughty at the Publix located at 8075 SW Highway 200 in Ocala. The retailer received a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.
The 500X THE CASH scratch-off game costs $50, and it features more than $1.6 billion in total cash prizes, including a top prize of $25 million. The game’s overall odds of winning are 1-in-4.23, according to lottery officials.
Earlier this week, the Florida Lottery announced that a Summerfield resident purchased a $1 million winning lottery ticket from a Publix in The Villages.
