A 77-year-old Ocala woman was killed on Friday night after she was hit by an SUV while she was attempting to walk across a roadway in the southwest part of the city.

The fatal accident occurred at around 9:40 p.m. on Friday, November 8, near the intersection of SW 80th Avenue and SW 63rd Street Road, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP stated that an SUV was traveling southbound on SW 80th Avenue, just south of SW 63rd Street Road, when the driver failed to see an elderly pedestrian who was walking westbound across the roadway.

As a result, the front right section of the SUV struck the elderly Ocala woman. She sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The SUV’s two occupants – a 74-year-old man (driver) and 76-year-old woman (passenger), both from Ocala – were not injured.

An FHP trooper noted in the report that the area where the crash occurred was “dark” and “not lighted.”

The names of the individuals involved in the accident were not released by FHP.
