To the Editor:
As many of know, once you have a loved one get arrested for whatever the offense, they become property of the Marion County Jail. Keep in mind that both innocent and the guilty are being housed together. The Marion County Jail uses outside contractors for medical, and communications between loved ones.
Securistech.net was charging us for our loved ones to be able to call us, or do video visits. The video visits were $32.09 for unlimited monthly visits. Well, they raised the prices to $5.95 for a 15 min visit and $10.00 for 30 minutes. They still get their fees on top of extorting the $10.00 per 30 minutes.
Those charges are kicked back to the inmate’s family. When is enough going to be enough?
The jail makes money hand over fist for anything we want to do to help our loved ones. They take half of the money we put on their Canteen account to make up for the $3.00 a day the jail charges for the inmate to be in there. They get kickbacks from Securistech.net for phone calls, which most county jails gives for free.
It’s looking more and more that the jail personnel doesn’t want the outside world to see how badly the inmates are treated. Now they are trying to profit from our video visits.
The jail is not about corrections, it’s about profits. They use their concentration camp tactics and they don’t care where their profits come from, even if it comes from someone on social security. They just want to rip us off and conceal what goes on in that jail.
Legalized extortion, because it’s done by law enforcement.
