Ocala officials are inviting the community to dispose of used cooking oil at a local park.
The City of Ocala Water Resources Department is hosting its cooking oil recycling day on Saturday, November 30, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ocala Wetland Recharge Park (2105 NW 21st Street).
Collection will be for cooking oil only and oil must be brought in a sealed container, according to the city.
“Recycling cooking oil reduces the amount of oil being poured down the drain and limits the environmental impact of oil being dumped outside,” reads a statement from the city.
Pouring fats, oils, and grease down a drain will coat the inside of the pipes before solidifying and restricting wastewater flow.
