A two-day prehistoric arts festival that will feature live tool-making demonstrations, archery, and spear throwing will return to a local museum this weekend.
The 14th annual installment of the Silver River Knap-In and Prehistoric Arts Festival is being held this weekend in Ocala.
The two-day event, which is the largest of its kind in the southeast, will take place on Saturday, February 15 and Sunday, February 16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Silver River Museum located at 1445 NE 58th Avenue.
During the festival, artisans from around the country will bring the past to life while making stone tools, pottery, buckskin leather, baskets, traditional bows and arrows, and more. There will also be dugout canoe carving and hide tanning, and various prehistoric artifacts will be on display.
In addition, attendees will be able to participate in several hands-on activities including archery and tomahawk/spear throwing, listen to experts in the field of archaeology, and take part in a museum scavenger hunt.
Plenty of food and craft vendors will also be on-site for the duration of the festival.
Admission to the event costs $10 per person, and children ages 5 and under get in for free.
