To the Editor:
As a citizen of Marion County, I am pretty outraged at the waste of money amounting to 2.3 million dollars about to be flushed in the toilet.
There is no plan for the expansion on as “as needed basis.” I have Ocala Fiber Optic network at the first house in my subdivision. When I contacted OFW to bring it to my home, I was told it would cost me personally $38,000.
You read that correctly – $38,000. I live exactly 1/2 mile from the first house in the subdivision – there is no reason to charge a citizen $38,000 to expand the network 1/2 a mile.
This is an absolute unsupervised gravy-train for these companies. Before I would have given any service provider, I would have required a “planned expansion” not some vague “as needed basis.”
Where will this be expanded? Who determines where the expansion will be done? Will the expansion included subdivisions with the greatest number of potential subscribers? Will the expansion include subdivisions where there is already Fiber Network in part of the subdivision? Who determines where the expansion will take place? And how is it determined?
There are more questions than there answers.
Anyone who read this article should be utterly outraged by the waste of money without specific goals. Anne Raduns
