UPDATE: As of 8:45 a.m., lanes are opening back up on I-75 and the Turnpike, with reports of heavy traffic throughout the area.
Multiple roadways around Interstate 75 through Sumter County and parts of Marion County are experiencing major delays and bottlenecks as a large portion of the northbound lanes of I-75 and the Florida Turnpike have been closed for an accident investigation.
Villages-News.com reported the delays at 8 a.m. this morning.
According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, the northbound portion of I-75 was shut down at State Road 44 earlier this morning due to a crash.
Additionally, northbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike were shut down at U.S. Highway 301 (Wildwood), with traffic being diverted northbound onto U.S. Highway 301.
In Marion County, motorists reported traffic jams along CR 475 and stretches of I-75 near Exit 341/CR 484.
Cameras maintained by the Florida Department of Transportation showed delays for a few miles extending south of Exit 341 as of 8 a.m.
Although FDOT and SCSO have not released details about the closures, FL511.com indicates they are due to a crash.
