A large fire consumed a home and nearly spread to the surrounding wooded area at a Belleview property on Thursday night.
Marion County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to reports of a structure fire near 5800 SE 127th Lane in Belleview on Thursday, April 3, at around 7:50 p.m.
A total of 38 firefighters and nine suppression units from Belleview Station #18, Spruce Creek Station #30, Villages Station #10, Weirsdale Station #27, Friendship Station #21, and Rolling Greens Station #28 responded to the scene to combat the fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a structure fire with heavy flames and smoke. According to MCFR, the fire was rapidly spreading into the surrounding wooded area.
The structure, used for storage and containing construction materials, posed multiple hazards to firefighters throughout the incident.
As the fire intensified, the concrete block walls of the building began to collapse, according to MCFR. In response, command directed a water sector to help suppress the flames as crews worked to bring the fire under control.
The fire was officially deemed under control at 8:52 PM, over an hour after MCFR was first dispatched to the scene. Firefighters continued to work on overhaul operations to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
No injuries were reported among the firefighting teams. The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
