The United States Navy will only conduct around an hour and 30 minutes of bomb testing within the Ocala National Forest this week, amidst the continued threat of wildfires in the area.
Bomb testing will take place at the Pinecastle Range Complex on Thursday, May 22, from 9:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
According to a statement from the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, no bombs will be tested through May 21, and again from May 23 to May 25.
“During bombing periods, wildlife may be temporarily displaced. Use extra caution when driving through the Ocala National Forest and surrounding areas. Secure any items around your residence that could attract wildlife,” reads a statement from the U.S. Navy.
In recent months, the Ocala National Forest has experienced several wildfires.
Although many of those wildfires have been caused by lightning strikes, at least one was caused by a bomb that missed its target.
