Since Ocala-News.com first published a story about the city of Ocala entering agreement with ICE, and a subsequent story about residents who submitted public comments on the topic, our website has received several letters about the issue:

“I fully agree with OPD’s cooperation agreement with ICE and support the Chief in that decision. However, I believe they should not have any exceptions to this policy for schools, farms, or other businesses. If you are here illegally, you either need to deport yourself, or be fully prosecuted under the law, no excuses. Why should some businesses profit from illegal activities of their employees? In fact, why shouldn’t that business be prosecuted for hiring illegals? We do have a law, E-Verify, on the books and if a business does not comply completely, they should be taken to court and appropriate penalties issued. Enough with the liberal permissiveness on not applying the law equally across the board for all people in this country legally or illegally” – Henry Hicks, Ocala

“Hello, I believe the agreement between OPD and ICE should be terminated. This just creates chaos and fear in our county. This is not who we are”Glorimar Medina, Ocala

“Of course the left wing liberals want illegal aliens to stay in our community. Soon, the democrats will be pushing to give these law breakers voting rights. Of course they will vote the democrat ticket in appreciation of rewarding them for their disrespect for United States laws. We should all be proud and supportive of our local law enforcement cooperation with ICE”Arnold Davis, Ocala
