A 25-year-old man was killed after his van crashed into a semi-truck along U.S. Highway 301 on Thursday morning.
The fatal accident took place near the intersection of U.S. Hwy 301 and SE 57th Avenue, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
Shortly before 8:30 a.m., the 25-year-old man, who was from St. Petersburg, was driving a van northbound on the left inside lane of U.S. Hwy 301. He was approximately 1/4 mile north of SE 57th Avenue, according to FHP.
At the same time, a semi-truck being driven by a 53-year-old man from Zephyrhills turned left from an access driveway into the southbound lanes of U.S. Hwy 301.
As a result, the front of the van collided with the the left rear axles of the trailer that was being pulled by the semi-truck.
The St. Petersburg man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the truck sustained no injuries, according to the FHP report.
The report also notes that both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
