After a local resident shared her opinions about Ocala’s public transportation during a meeting, other residents wrote in to share their opinions. Here are a couple of those letters:
“I am a older woman of color. I have had bad experiences on public transportation in New York City and Metropolitan Atlanta. I have never used many bags from Walmart shopping. I have used SunTran in the past when my car needed repair or when transmission or engine repair was too expensive. I’m sad to hear that happened. I hope that the situation is resolved. We need transportation here in Marion County. We also need to be respectful. I pray that the truth comes out and whomever is causing the problems is met with resolution for the betterment of the people and SunTran.” – Beatrice Johnson, Ocala
“Hi, I was reading the letter about a lady that accuses SunTran drivers of being racist. I used to ride the bus to work and doctors appointments. I don’t ride the bus anymore because the bus does not service where I leave, otherwise, I would still take the bus. When you enter the bus, the rule is you are only allowed 2 to 3 bags per person. Passengers should know that; everyone should follow the rules. I don’t think any one ever was discriminated. The drivers always were friendly. Some people are just lawsuit crazy. Thank you.” – Iris Dombek, Southwest Marion County
