A driver who crashed through a fence and was impaled by a fence board was extricated from a pickup truck after Marion County emergency personnel were notified about the incident through an iPhone alert.
Marion County Fire Rescue units were dispatched to the scene of the accident in the 5400 block of West Highway 329 in Reddick at around 5:32 a.m. on Monday, June 23.
According to MCFR, the organization was initially notified about the accident through an iPhone alert. Immediately after the iPhone notified authorities, the injured driver spoke with the MCFR Public Safety Communications Center.
At around 5:38 a.m., MCFR units arrived to find an overturned pickup truck in a field. According to authorities, the pickup truck crashed through a fence before entering the field and the driver was trapped inside.
MCFR paramedics immediately began treatment while driver of the vehicle was impaled by fence boards. According to authorities, that complicated the extrication.
Firefighting crews from multiple local stations worked together to remove the vehicle’s roof and successfully free the driver at around 6:03 a.m.
MCFR says the patient was declared a trauma alert and was transported to a local hospital immediately after extrication.
The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the crash.
