To the Editor:
Eastern Airlines used to fly DC-9 aircraft to Ocala from Atlanta throughout the 1970s. I have always wondered why Gainesville has commercial jet service from American and Delta, but the larger airport in Ocala does not.
I am also aware that there were once discussions about developing Williston Regional Airport jointly with Alachua County as a larger regional airport, but that Gainesville wants to keep the only commercial airport in the region for itself.
I would welcome additional travel options in our region.
