To the Editor:

This summer, I flew back to California and embarked on an eight day roadtrip with my daughter and four grandchildren cross country back to Florida. My grandchildren are 11-year-old twin girls, a 12-year-old granddaughter with down syndrome, and a fourteen-year-old grandson.

These kids, as well as my daughter, had never been to a Buc-ee’s before, but some of their friends at school had. My grandchildren watched TikTok and YouTube videos for weeks in anticipation. We even picked campgrounds near Buc-ee’s locations within a ten mile radius.

The other day, the twins mentioned taking another roadtrip in 2026. My response was “I think we’ll fly next year.”

“But Grammy, what about Buc-ees?” they asked me.

“Don’t worry girls, we’re getting our very own Buc-ee’s here in Ocala, and hopefully it will be finished next summer when you come back,” I said.

While this news meant no souvenir state t-shirts or refrigerator magnets from different states, it did mean multiple trips to a Buc-ee’s near Grammy and Grandpa’s house.

How cool is that?
