A 50-year-old Marion County man was arrested more than a month after he allegedly sent a text message to his ex-girlfriend threatening to kill her.
On Tuesday, September 2, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy made contact with the female victim who advised that she had received a threatening text message earlier that morning. She advised that she believed the message had been sent from her ex-boyfriend, Fort McCoy resident Benny Delvalle, according to the arrest report.
The deputy reviewed the text message on the victim’s cellphone, which stated: “You won’t live past this year (expletive) nasty (expletive) (expletive), you (expletive) (expletive) rag. I seriously can’t wait till I’m standing over your nasty (expletive) dead body. You better call and apologize to me, or I will come back and kill you, you nasty (expletive) (expletive).”
After reading the text message, the deputy called the phone number that had sent it to the victim. A man answered the phone and identified himself as “Benny” before quickly hanging up, and several more call attempts went to voicemail, according to the report.
The victim told the deputy that she had been in an “on-and-off relationship” with Delvalle for several years, and they lived together for multiple months. According to the victim’s statement, they broke up in August, and the victim blocked Delvalle’s phone number after telling him that she “wanted a clean break.”
Shortly after interviewing the victim, the deputy received a call from Delvalle. He allegedly admitted to making the written threats to kill the victim, and he added that he hoped the text messages “scared (the victim) because she deserves it,” according to the report.
A warrant was issued for Delvalle’s arrest, and he was taken into custody and booked into Marion County Jail on Friday, October 17. He remains in custody without bond, and he is being charged with making a written or electronic threat to kill or cause bodily harm to another.
Jail records show that Delvalle is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18.
