A 28-year-old Ocala man was shot and killed by North Carolina police last week after he allegedly went on a deadly crime spree.
On Thursday, October 23, shortly after 4 p.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers responded to the intersection of Hoskins Road and Black Avenue in Charlotte, North Carolina, after receiving reports of shots being fired in the area, according to CMPD.
Upon arrival, the officers located two victims who had sustained gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to an area hospital, where they both succumbed to their injuries.
In a media release, CMPD stated that the suspect in this case, later identified as Ocala resident Joseph Ajani Andrade, allegedly “forced his way into a nearby home,” kidnapped a victim, and left in a stolen vehicle.
Officers soon spotted the stolen vehicle and initiated a pursuit. Andrade then allegedly began shooting at the officers.
After a brief pursuit, Andrade allegedly exited the stolen vehicle and “continued to shoot in the direction of CMPD officers,” according to police.
In response, the officers “discharged their firearms” at Andrade, fatally striking him.
“Multiple CMPD vehicles were shot into during this incident,” stated Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. “Neither the kidnapped victim nor any officers were injured during this incident.”
The police department added that four of its officers were evaluated at a hospital “as a precautionary measure.”
No further details were provided by police regarding Andrade’s motive or what brought him to the Charlotte area.
