A head-on collision that occurred just north of Marion County on U.S. Highway 301 left a woman from Jacksonville dead and two other individuals with serious injuries.
The fatal accident occurred near the intersection of U.S. 301 and NW 116th Avenue in Alachua County on Sunday at around 11:30 a.m.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 41-year-old woman from Jacksonville was traveling southbound on U.S. 301 on the inside lane, just south of the city of Waldo.
For unknown reasons, the woman failed to negotiate a curve in the road, causing her sedan to travel through the median and into the northbound travel lanes.
The sedan entered the direct path of a pickup truck and collided head-on with the vehicle, which was being driven by a 58-year-old man from Hortense, Georgia.
The Jacksonville woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Georgia man sustained serious injuries. A passenger in the pickup truck, an 82-year-old woman also from Hortense, was critically injured in the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol notes that the woman in the sedan was wearing a seatbelt and that the two individuals in the pickup truck were not.
