To the Editor:
I live 18 miles north of Ocala, in Marion County. We have a road off County Road 318 (NE 10th Avenue) that has been patched every once in a while.
In 23 years, not once has the road been completely resurfaced. We went from about 20 homes to approximately 75+ that use the area.
The roadway is half sand, half blacktop, with patches and a bad drop from county to private roads.
We have no street lights and we haul our trash to the dump on NE 19th Court.
Now, the county, by moving budget items to assessments, they bypass the real estate tax cap, and we lose our exemptions. By moving items, they get to increase taxes.
We need a turn signal at County Road 318 and U.S. Highway 301. Sitting through three lights to make a turn is getting dangerous.
Taxes due to budget items moved to assess are +$500 over the last couple years, yet they keep approving more housing developments.
