A motorist died following a two-vehicle collision early Wednesday morning that shut down a busy stretch of South Pine Avenue in Ocala for several hours.
The crash occurred in the 1000 block of South Pine Avenue, near Southwest 10th Street, at around 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
According to the Ocala Police Department, one person involved in the wreck was transported to a local hospital but later succumbed to their injuries. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
The collision forced authorities to detour northbound traffic on S Pine Avenue between SW 17th Street and SW 10th Street while officers investigated the scene.
The roadway remained closed through the early morning commute but was reopened before 7:00 a.m..
Police have not released further details regarding the cause of the crash or the second driver involved. The investigation is ongoing.
