Marion County health officials are providing free or low cost breast cancer screenings to women in the community later this month, regardless of insurance status.
The Florida Department of Health in Marion County will host the 3D Mobile Mammography bus to provide free or low-cost mammograms to women in the community at the DOH-Marion Ocala Facility, which is located at 1801 SE 32nd Ave. in Ocala, on Wednesday, March 25, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Individuals seeking free mammogram screenings must meet each of the four criteria:
- Women between the ages of 40 and 64
- Household income that is less than or equal to 200% of the poverty level
- No health insurance to cover the cost of a clinical breast exam, mammogram, or Pap smear
- Primary residence is in Florida
The federal government has established the poverty level for 2026 as $15,960 for one person, and $33,000 for a family of four. Under the criteria, women will qualify if they earn less than $31,920 as an individual, or less than $66,000 if they are part of a four-person household.
“Getting a mammogram is the single most effective method of early detection, since it can identify cancer several years before physical symptoms develop,” stated DOH-Marion in a press release.
