A 22-year-old woman was killed on Interstate 75 in Marion County on Saturday night after her motorcycle was rear-ended by a sedan and threw her into the path of an oncoming SUV.
The fatal accident occurred near mile marker 349 in the southbound lanes of I-75 at approximately 9:23 p.m. on Saturday, March 21.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the young woman was operating a motorcycle southbound in the outside lane. Traveling behind her was a sedan driven by a 35-year-old man from Ocala. Behind both vehicles, a 68-year-old man from Tampa was driving a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) in the center lane.
Crash investigators state that the sedan rear-ended the motorcycle, which caused the rider to be thrown from her vehicle. The woman landed in the center lane, directly in the path of the oncoming SUV.
The front of the SUV then collided with the rider.

The woman was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. FHP confirmed the victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Neither the driver of the sedan nor the driver of the SUV reported any injuries. Both were wearing their seatbelts.
The names of those involved have not been released, and the crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
