An Ocala woman who shined in high school athletics has just claimed a national collegiate boxing title on behalf of the United States Naval Academy.
Kieley Bateman was one of four national champions from the U.S. Naval Academy who cleaned up at this year’s National College Boxing Association Finals. The tournament took place in Charlotte, North Carolina, from April 9 to April 11.
In addition to the four champions, the U.S. Naval Academy team also had three runners-up.

Bateman claimed her title in the 156lbs Women’s Division, besting Sela Panuve, who fought on behalf of the United States Air Force Academy.
A graduate of Trinity High School, Bateman was an accomplished basketball player during her time in Ocala. In addition to playing varsity basketball, Bateman also played varsity flag football and soccer.
Bateman is set to graduate from the United States Naval Academy in 2029.
Leave your words of encouragement and congratulations for Kieley Bateman, who is making Ocala and Marion County proud on the national stage.
