A 63-year-old Ocala woman is facing additional charges after allegedly threatening to “choke and kill” Marion County deputies who responded to a neighbor’s battery complaint.

On Friday, April 17, several Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an elderly female victim’s home in reference to a battery incident. The victim stated that she was smoking a cigarette outside her residence when one of her neighbors, Kathryn Karyl Riese, “came across the street to yell at (her),” according to the arrest report.

During an ensuing argument, Riese reportedly shoved the victim before punching her in the chest. Riese then allegedly grabbed the victim by the arm.

The victim said that she was “minding her business” at the time of the incident, and she “has no clue” why Riese approached her and reportedly struck her.

Two witnesses spoke with law enforcement and corroborated the victim’s statement, according to the report.

While at the incident location, the deputies allegedly heard Riese “yelling from her house located across the street.” Riese was eventually spotted riding her golf cart, and the deputies made contact with her.

When the deputies attempted to detain Riese, she allegedly refused to exit the golf cart. The report stated that Riese also “made multiple attempts to walk away,” and she allegedly “pulled away multiple times” when the deputies attempted to secure her in handcuffs.

Riese was eventually arrested, placed in the back of an MCSO patrol vehicle, and transported to Marion County Jail. While heading to the facility, Riese reportedly threatened to “utilize the handcuffs” to “choke and kill” the deputies.

Upon arrival at the jail, Riese was booked and charged with battery on a person 65 years of age or older, resisting an officer without violence, and threatening to kill or harm a law enforcement officer. She was released the following day after posting bond.

Jail records show that Riese is scheduled to appear in a Marion County courtroom at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19.
