Ocala Cultural Arts is bringing the beach to downtown for the first time with the Sand and Sun Festival this weekend, which will feature a sandcastle playground for visitors and large sand sculptors made by professionals.
The festival will take place this Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Citizens’ Circle, which is located at 151 SE Osceola Avenue in Ocala.
The event will feature six professional sand sculptors who will create large-scale, detailed sand sculptures based on an open theme.
It will also feature live music, community performances at Citizens’ Circle, local food trucks, and artisan and craft vendors. It is family-friendly and is free to attend.
Children in attendance will be able to explore the Sandcastle Playground, a hands-on area with a sand pit where they can build their own sand creations.
A panel of expert judges will evaluate the sculptures and determine first and second place, with winners announced at 4:30 p.m. Attendees will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite sculpture to win the Fan Favorite Award.
