A 20-year-old Ocala woman was arrested after she allegedly stole over $700 worth of items from a local Walmart during two separate trips in the same afternoon.
On Sunday, May 24, Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Walmart located at 34 Bahia Avenue in Ocala in reference to a grand theft incident, according to the arrest report.
Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a loss prevention associate who advised that the suspect, identified as Breyanna Patricia Amore Montgomery, had reportedly attempted to exit the store’s automotive department with a shopping cart full of unpaid merchandise at around 1:20 p.m.
Montgomery was detained by the loss prevention associate after passing all points of sale. The shopping cart used by Montgomery allegedly contained approximately $431 worth of unpaid items, which consisted of groceries, clothes, and miscellaneous personal items, according to the report.
While reviewing the store’s video surveillance footage, deputies noticed that Montgomery had allegedly pushed another grocery cart full of items through the automotive section and past all points of sale at around 12:50 p.m. that afternoon.
During an interior search of Montgomery’s vehicle, deputies reportedly found over 40 additional stolen grocery items. An MCSO corporal noted in the report that the total value of the unpaid merchandise was $773.56.
After being advised of her Miranda rights, Montgomery allegedly declined to discuss the theft incidents.
Montgomery was placed under arrest and booked into Marion County Jail. She was released later the same day after posting bond, and she is being charged with grand theft (over $750 but less than $5,000).
A court date for Montgomery has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
