A 51-year-old woman was killed Friday afternoon in a head-on collision on County Road 42, marking the third traffic fatality in Marion County this week and the second on the exact same stretch of roadway.

The fatal accident occurred at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Friday, June 5, on County Road 42, east of SE 105th Avenue.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol accident report, a 46-year-old man from Ocklawaha was driving a pickup truck westbound on CR 42 when his vehicle entered the eastbound lane for unknown reasons.

The pickup truck traveled directly into the path of an oncoming sport utility vehicle traveling eastbound, resulting in a front-to-front collision.

The driver of the SUV, a 51-year-old woman from Boynton Beach, was pronounced deceased at the scene. FHP troopers noted that she was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The Ocklawaha man driving the pickup truck sustained minor injuries in the collision. Troopers noted in the report that he was not wearing a seatbelt.

Friday’s crash marks the third traffic death in Marion County since Tuesday, occurring at nearly the exact same time and location as a separate fatal accident less than 48 hours prior.

On Wednesday, June 3, at approximately 1:48 p.m., a 30-year-old man from Leesburg was killed on the same stretch of CR 42, just east of SE 105th Avenue in Summerfield.

In that incident, the Leesburg man was driving a sedan westbound when his vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound pickup truck. That crash also left a female passenger critically injured and prompted a law enforcement search for a male passenger who fled the scene on foot.

Earlier in the week on Tuesday, a separate fatal accident claimed the life of a 69-year-old man from Lady Lake. In that incident, the victim was riding a motorcycle on SE 175th Street when the fatal crash occurred.

According to data maintained by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Marion County has recorded approximately 38 traffic fatalities through May 29 of this year.

The most recent fatal accidents take Marion County’s fatality total to 40 through the year. In comparison, through mid-July 2025, the county had recorded exactly 40 traffic fatalities for the year.
