William “Bill” H. Hall, 89, of Ocala, FL passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Born on July 2, 1936, in Norwood, GA, Bill later moved to Florida and graduated from Miami Edison Senior High School in 1954. During his younger years, he began boxing with a group of friends and quickly developed a talent for the sport. He later attended fire college in Miami and went on to dedicate 26 years of service to the fire department, a career that became his lifelong passion.
Bill proudly began his career as a firefighter in Miami on June 30, 1960. Firefighting was more than a profession to him — it was his passion. He faithfully served his community for 26 years and was promoted to Lieutenant on September 9, 1977. Even after retirement, he remained proud of his years in the fire service.
In addition to his fire service career, Bill was an accomplished boxer. In 1954, he won the Florida AAU Boxing Championship and went on to win more than 100 fights throughout his boxing career, losing only four. Although he had the opportunity to pursue professional boxing, Bill chose to remain with the fire department, dedicating himself to the career he loved most.
Outside of work, Bill loved dancing, vacationing in Gatlinburg, TN, and enjoying country music, 1950s classics, and old-time rock and roll. Some of his favorite artists were Hank Williams Jr. and Jerry Lee Lewis. Bill also loved being silly, making funny jokes, and doing crazy things that made people laugh. Whether spending time with family and friends or listening to music, Bill enjoyed life’s simple pleasures and the memories created along the way.
Bill shared 37 years of marriage with his first wife, Louise Hall. The two were young sweethearts who eloped when Louise was just 16 years old, and according to family stories, they spent plenty of time trying to stay one step ahead of her mother. Together, they raised their four children and shared many cherished memories before Louise preceded him in death on December 4, 1995.
After Louise’s passing, Bill found happiness again with Jane Hall in Ocala, FL, and they shared more than 20 years together before marrying on October 24, 2019. Together, they blended their families and shared eight children, 16 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Jane lovingly stood by Bill’s side through the years, caring for him with devotion and sharing many happy memories together with their blended family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Eugene Hall; his mother, Blanche Hall; his sister, Carmen Knight; and his first wife, Louise Hall.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jane Hall of Ocala, FL; his children, John Hall of Elizabethton, TN, Eugene Hall of Lakeland, FL, Gina Hall of Ocala, FL, and Jennifer Way of Jonesborough; his stepchildren, Amy Rose of Maineville, OH, Ron Miller of Miami, FL, Melissa McDaniels of Palatka, FL, and John Dornin of Bangkok, Thailand.
Bill was cremated, and his ashes will remain with his wife until they are later spread at a place that held special meaning to him. A private Celebration of Life will be held in his honor.
The family would like to thank everyone for the love, prayers, kindness, and support shown during this difficult time. Bill’s strength, dedication, humor, and passion for the fire service will always be remembered.
