Just a few months after Tim Tebow helped open a new Walmart in Ocala, a legendary coach who led successful collegiate football programs at the University of Florida, the University of South Carolina, and Duke over a multi-decade career will make a similar appearance to help open a new Walmart just south of Marion County.
Steve Spurrier, the 1966 Heisman Trophy winner and former head coach of the Florida Gators, will attend the grand opening of a new Walmart in the Hammock Oaks development.
According to Villages-News.com, the new store is located on County Road 466, situated next door to The Villages in nearby Lady Lake.
While Spurrier is not officially partnered with Walmart, the retailer sells a wide variety of Spurrier-related merchandise and memorabilia.
Spurrier’s visit mirrors a similar event earlier this year in Ocala when fellow Gators legend and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow helped open a new Walmart Neighborhood Market.
In late January, hundreds of shoppers and football fans lined up hours in advance at the new Walmart located at 3535 SE Maricamp Road in Ocala.
Tebow hosted an afternoon meet-and-greet, interacting with fans, signing copies of his book, and handing out autographed mini-footballs to the first 250 customers in line.
The Ocala event also featured appearances by former Florida Gators and NFL linemen Mike and Maurkice Pouncey.
Will you make the drive down to Lady Lake for Wednesday morning’s grand opening event to see Steve Spurrier? Share your photos and experiences with us if you do.
