Gloria Y. White Butler was born on September 17, 1941,

to Theola H. E. White and Ida Marie Wilson. Theola died earlyin Gloria’s life. Ida later married Willie Brown, Jr., who became Gloria’s second dad.

​She was educated in Marion County Schools and graduatedin Fessenden High School Class of 1960.

​In 1958, Gloria married Alfred J. Butler. To this union eight children were born and a bonus child.

​Prior to her sickness, Gloria was extremely active. She was employed in restaurant work and with the Marion County School System as a teacher assistant. A few years later, Gloria and Alfred decided that she would take on a role of “Full time”stay at home mom and homemaker. And make a home she did!

She was a very active and visible part in her children’s education, school and any other activities that they may have been involved in. Band parent (for many years) was only one of the many roles that she enjoyed. She also sold Tupperware and Princess House Crystal products.

Gloria had a heart larger than Texas. When it came to her family and community, which became her extended family, it grew even larger. She enjoyed cooking and serving others, crocheting, sewing, gardening, and volunteering her time and talents. Gloria was also known for getting her shopping in!And she liked doing that for others as well.

At Mt. Tabor, the Church Family that she dearly loved, she served as a Steward Pro Tem, sang in the Choir, served on the Finance Committee member, chaired the Kitchen Committee and would even step in as an usher. She was also very active in Women’s Missionary Society on the Local, Area and Conference levels. She was the Mary J. Jennings Area Chairperson when she became ill. She loved working with the youth and formerly served as the local YPD Director.

​Left to cherish her memory are her children: Bridget Regina Butler, Veronica Butler Damon, Alfreda Whitter (James“Lamans”), Alfred “Keith” Butler and Jimison Thomas (Tomia).Grandchildren: Evony Damon, Marke’ Taylor, Ashley Cohen-Huff (Trevin), Kyle Whitter, Brittany Cohen, Javon Thomas, Jaylon Thomas and Alfred K. Butler, Jr. (“AJ/The Man”). Greatgrands: Reuben Beckford, III, Evan Taylor, ArbreyTaylor, Axel Taylor and Ayla Taylor. Siblings: Billie B. Hudson, Annie F. Barbour, Cheryl Baker (Jimmie). Daughter-n-law: Monique P. Butler and Sis-in-law: Vivian Brown. She was also blessed wiith a special, loving and dedicated Goddaughter and friend, Patsy Brown and a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins and others who will miss her dearly.

​The following preceded her in death: Her Husband, Alfred J. Butler. Children; Michael Dale, Carol Jacinta, Kelvin Lamarand Kevin Demar Butler. Siblings; Bobby Brown, Wayne Brown, Sr., Earl Joe Brown, Sr. and Reverend Kathy James.
