WILLIAM STEELE PITTMAN, SR. known to friends and family as “Bill,” was born on October 21, 1943 in Pelzer, South Carolina. He passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026 in Ocala, Florida.
Bill grew up in Pelzer, Anderson County. His parents were Charles Pierce Pittman and Odessa Phillips. He attended Palmetto High School where he graduated in 1961. He had two passions: artistic drawing and electronics. In grade school he was nicknamed “Profit Pittman” because he knew how to use his skills and talents to make money. At 13, his first job was selling newspapers. In his early 20’s he opened a television and electronic appliances repair shop. Then in 1979 he moved to Florida along with his first family including his children; daughters Tina and Paula and son William Jr.
Bill had a distinguished career as a Quality Control Manager at Antennas for Communication where he worked for many years in the installation of Satellite Antennas not only in Florida but across other states. After raising his first family, Bill got divorced from his first wife in 1990 and later remarried in 1992. He and his new wife, Doris, started their own business called “Pittman Computer Services” which operated until December 2021. Bill’s computer store not only serviced numerous companies in the Ocala and surrounding areas but also individuals with their computer and software needs. At the same time, he also started teaching software classes at his own school called PC Learning Center where he trained hundreds of people for four years. He and his wife purchased in 1998 the plaza, Regency Square, where their store was located.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Doris M. Pittman, and their two daughters Hanna Jolly and Deanna Dizon as well as his daughters Tina Black, Paula Pittman and son William Jr. He also has eight grandchildren, the closest to him Brandon Vaughn and seventeen great-grandchildren. He is survived as well by his only living sibling, Mrs. Charleene Fossett who lives in South Carolina along with her children and their families.
After Bill retired and closed the computer store in 2021, he continued building circuit boards as a hobby and studying different computer languages. He enjoyed the James Bond movies, some Netflix series, and listening to old rock and roll music. He frequently cooked for his family and loved sweets and pastries.
Bill was a devoted and loving husband and father. He was witty, funny and smart and he will be remembered as a man of a good heart, great integrity, honesty and warmth.
He will be deeply missed by his wife whom he shared an empty nest and by his children, grandchildren, his two brothers-in-law, Leonardo and Luis Alberto and by the rest of his family and friends.
