Mrs. Amelia Singleton Prescott, daughter of the late Israel and Amelia (Isaac) Singleton, was born July 31, 1930 in Sumter, South Carolina. Amelia departed this life to be with her Heavenly Father on June 23, 2026 in Ocala, Florida.

Amelia grew up in Sumter, South Carolina where she attended Sumter County Public Schools. She attended Morris College where she studied Education and played on the women’s basketball team. After college, she met her soul mate, the late James “Nucci” Prescott. After marriage they moved to Newark, New Jersey and started their family. While there she found a love for styling hair and became a beautician. She also taught classes at the Essie Mae’s Beauty School in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Later Amelia became a proprietor of her own hair salon named “A Little Touch of Beauty.”

At an early age, Amelia joined the Ebenezar Presbyterian Church in Dalzell, South Carolina. Amelia kept her faith and joined Siloam Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey. There she served as President of both the Deacon and Usher Boards and sang in the church choir.

As the years passed, James retired and they moved to Silver Springs Shores in Ocala, Florida. Shortly thereafter Amelia opened a new hair salon “Amelia’s Beauty Salon,” They were immediately accepted into the community and were known as Miss Amelia and Mr. James. There she joined the Silver Springs Shores Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and sang in the church choir.

Amelia was an organizer and she was responsible for bringing the family together. She started the famous Isaac, English, Singleton Family Reunion which took place every two years. Amelia did not stop with just family reunions; she was a member of many local organizations and social clubs.

Amelia’s house was a home of love, and the door was open to all. In that home she was famous for her world-renowned sweet potato pie, barbecue sauce, and potato salad.

Amelia’s memory lives on in her children Branda (James) Johnson, Faustina (Larry) Johnson, Christopher (Toni) Prescott, Lleweyn (Victoria) Prescott. Her niece Taheerah Amour; sister-in-law Laura Singleton; sister-cousin Elizabeth Martin; godson Craig Roseberry; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
