Evangelist Odessa M. Washington was born on September 17, 1943, in Summerfield, Florida, to the loving union of the late Otis and Charlotte Snow.

She graduated from Belleview-Santos High School in Belleview, Florida. After graduation, she attended Hampton Jr. College in Ocala, Florida (now Central Florida College). While pursuing her education she worked at Munroe Memorial Hospital in Ocala for approximately eight years.

She later relocated with her family to Youngstown, Ohio to continue her education at Youngstown State University. While attending college, she worked for Dr. James Dabney as a receptionist, admissions clerk, and nursing assistant until his passing.

Odessa was employed by the Mahoning County Public School System for several years before transferring to the Youngstown Police Department, Juvenile Division, where she faithfully served for 25 years until her retirement. Throughout her career, she received numerous accolades for her outstanding service, dedication, and unwavering commitment, including reporting to work during inclement weather.

She also studied theology under the leadership of the renowned Rev. Dr. Edgar Fisher of Youngstown, Ohio, and earned her Evangelist license under his mentorship. Rev. Dr. Fisher also officiated the marriage of Samuel and Odessa Washington.

Evangelist Washington resided in Youngstown, Ohio, for more than 35 years. She was an avid reader who collected man different versions of the Bible and devoted countless hours to studying God’s Word.

She faithfully wrote letters to inmates throughout the United States, visited nursing homes, and read to the blind and those who were unable to read. She taught Sunday School, led Bible studies, and ministered at numerous churches on many occasions.

She especially enjoyed needlework, particular crocheting, and loved wearing hats, many of which were lovingly gifted to her by her children.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, the late Otis and Charlotte Snow; brothers , Otis Jr, Fred, Mack, Roosevelt, and Herman; sisters, Catherine, Laura, Lillie, Altamese, and Junelle.

Evangelist Washington leaves to cherish her precious memories and carry on her legacy: Her husband of 38 years, Samuel F. Washington of Ocala, Florida; daughter, Ora Townsend Ramsay (Gregory) of Ocala, Florida; son Terrance G. Townsend (Janet) of Kingsland Georgia, grandson Terrance C. Townsend (Sheneese) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Samuel A. Glover of Ocala, Florida, Ryan V. Townsend of Waterford, Connecticut; granddaughter, Dabrina Moore (Thaddius) of St. Augustine, Florida; Terria Townsend of New London, Connecticut; along with ten great-grandchildren and a host of nieces,nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
