A 42-year-old Micanopy man was killed Monday afternoon after he was struck by a vehicle while he was using a chainsaw to clear a fallen tree from a Marion County roadway.
According to an official report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal incident occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. on County Road 329, about one mile north of County Road 320.
State troopers report that a sedan being driven by a 76-year-old Micanopy man was traveling southbound on CR 329.
At the same time, the 42-year-old man was standing on or near the white painted edge line of the roadway, actively cutting a felled tree that was lying across the road.
The southbound sedan collided with both the tree and the pedestrian, according to FHP. The 42-year-old man sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that his next of kin has been notified.
The 76-year-old driver of the sedan, who was wearing his seatbelt during the crash, suffered minor injuries.
Traffic homicide investigators responded to the scene, and the investigation into the collision remains active and ongoing.
