An Ocala pedestrian was killed Tuesday night when he was struck by a vehicle that had been traveling on Interstate 75.
Ocala Policer officers were dispatched to an incident at State Road 200 near S.W. 35th Terrace and when they arrived, they found 22-year-old William Ryan Abbott on the sidewalk in the southwest corner of the intersection.
Police determined that Abbott had been hit by a vehicle that had been traveling eastbound on I-75. The vehicle left the roadway toward the right, traveled onto the sidewalk and grass and struck Abbott, the report says.
Abbott was trauma alerted to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. His death marks the eighth fatality for the city this year and the sixth one involving a pedestrian.
