An Ocala motorcyclist was thrown from his vehicle and killed this weekend after a sport utility vehicle turned in front of him on State Road 40.
The fatal accident took place near the intersection of SR 40 and Cypress Street in Volusia County on Sunday, March 2, at around 12 p.m.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 68-year-old Ocala man was driving his 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on SR 40, just east of Cypress Street.
At the same time, a 35-year-old woman from DeLand who was driving a 2022 Kia Telluride westbound on SR 40 made a left turn directly into the path of the motorcycle.
According to FHP, the motorcyclist attempted to avoid the collision by swerving, but was unsuccessful.
As a result, the motorcycle “laid down,” causing the rider to be propelled forward into the right rear of the SUV.
The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver was not transported and remained on scene.
