Marion County firefighters rushed to Interstate 75 on Sunday afternoon after receiving reports of a vehicle fire in the southbound lane.
At 2:15 p.m., Marion County Fire Rescue’s Ladder #3 unit was dispatched to the scene of the fire on I-75. According to MCFR, a citizen had called 911 to report that a silver passenger car was on fire near mile marker 341.
Shortly after 2:30 p.m., MCFR crew members arrived on scene and observed a silver Hyundai Sonata that was approximately 50% covered in flames.
MCFR crews immediately deployed a hose line and began dousing the car with water to attack the flames.
The blaze was “under control” by 2:52 p.m., according to MCFR. The cause and origin of the fire is currently under investigation.
There were no injuries reported.
