Driver of vehicle involved in death of teen arrested for DUI manslaughter

The driver of the vehicle that was involved in a car accident that claimed the life of his teen passenger was arrested Wednesday on a charge of driving under the influence-manslaughter following his release from Tampa General Hospital.

Donavan L. Patterson, 18, of Pinellas Park had been at the wheel of a 2008 Dodge Caliber when he crashed into another vehicle, killing 18-year-old passenger Jocelyn Kaila Schirmer, according to a Florida Highway Patrol accident report. Patterson was seriously injured and was transported to Tampa General Hospital, the report stated.

Following his release from the hospital, Patterson was arrested by FHP. He was charged with DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide and several counts of DUI involving serious bodily injury.
