A 62-year-old woman was arrested after she allegedly stole money from a cash box at a yard sale in Ocala.

The yard sale was taking place Saturday at a home on NW 44th Ave. A woman, later identified as Susan Weitzel of Ocala, approached one of the women running the yard sale with questions about a china bowl. Weitzel indicated she wanted to buy the bowl, but said she would need a bag for it. When the woman went to look for a bag, Weitzel opened the cash box and began stuffing money into her pockets, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Another one of the ladies running the yard sale saw what was happening and screamed. Weitzel then got into a pickup truck and prepared to drive away. Before Weitzel took off, one of the yard sale ladies approached the truck, but Weitzel showed the woman her “middle finger,” put the truck in gear and drove away, the arrest report indicated.

Some maintenance workers in the area got a partial license plate number for the vehicle. It was determined that the truck was registered to Weitzel’s husband.

When deputies arrived at the Weitzel residence, she attempted to flee out a back door. She was apprehended and taken into custody on charges of grand theft and resisting arrest. She was booked at the Marion County Jail
