A construction worker was airlifted from the scene of a crash in which his vehicle was wedged underneath a semi’s trailer early Thursday morning in Sumter County.
Pedro J. Quinones, 51, of Mascotte, had been driving a semi owned by Forestry Resources Transportation of Fort Myers at about 5:30 a.m. when it collided with the pickup driven by 34-year-old Peter John Householder of Webster at State Road 50 and County Road 737, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
Quinones said he thought he had enough room when he pulled the semi from a private driveway making a left turn onto State Road 50, but he drove into the path of the pickup, which is owned by SEMA Construction Inc. of Orlando.
The front of the truck Householder was driving slammed into the trailer of the semi and became wedged underneath it, the report indicated.
Householder was airlifted to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson.
Quinones was ticketed on a charge of failure to yield
