To the Editor:

Who is responsible for picking up the flags that mark utilities for the fiber companies installing fiber throughout the county?

Prior to digging (call before you dig), the utilities need to be marked for prevention of a utility accidentally cut. The protocol is to call the company and they contact the specific utilities to send someone out to mark the utilities with flags. Sounds simple.

The flags are placed, the work is complete, but the flags are not picked up. My particular neighborhood (Deer Path) had 2 different fiber companies come in at separate times to place the fiber.

The first company (T-Mobile) completed their work and all the flags were picked up. The second company (Wire 3) completed their work and all the flags were left. So they have been there now for about a month.

So, why isn’t there a better system? This is littering our neighborhoods and nobody wants to take responsibility. It’s a broken system.
