Dogs rescued from Ocklawaha mobile home after grease fire breaks out in kitchen

Crews from Marion County Fire Rescue were called to an Ocklawaha mobile home last week after a fire broke out in the kitchen area of the structure.

Marion County Fire Rescue crews move in from the porch area of an Ocklawaha mobile home as they prepare to battle a blaze that later was blamed on a kitchen grease fire.

Units were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 5700 block of SE 184th Terrace last Monday night after a 911 caller reported that the kitchen was on fire, smoke and flames were visible and all occupants had evacuated the home.

Firefighters from Lynne Station #4 arrived on scene at 9:36 p.m. to find the double-wide mobile home approximately 20 percent involved, with flames venting through the side and front door of the structure. Firefighters quickly deployed a hose line and made an aggressive interior attack on the blaze.

Paramedics provide oxygen to a dog that was rescued during the mobile home blaze.

Additional units from South Marion Station #6, Weirsdale Station #27, Volunteer Station #26 and Shady Station #16 arrived on scene to assist. The fire was quickly knocked down and called under control at 9:49 p.m., a Marion County Fire Rescue report states.

The cause was determined to be a grease fire in the kitchen. There were no injuries reported. Firefighters did rescue two dogs from the burning structure, but one was lost in the fire and another was reported missing.

Firefighter/paramedics administered oxygen to one of the dogs. And the American Red Cross was called in to assist the family.

Firefighters make their way through the burning mobile home while checking for hot spots.
