Marion County woman dies after crash which left toddler son seriously injured

A Marion County woman died after an early morning crash which left her toddler son seriously injured.

Jasmine L. Williams, 25, of Sparr, had been at the wheel of a 2007 Pontiac G6 that was traveling at an “excessive speed” at 1:50 a.m. Sunday on County Road 200-A when she failed to negotiate a curve, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. She overcorrected, the car struck a concrete culvert and went airborne. The vehicle then struck a fence and landed on its roof in a pasture.

 Williams had not been wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle in the crash.

Her son, 2-year-old Jaylon Williams, was standing near the vehicle when Marion County Fire Rescue arrived on the scene.

She was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center where she died of injuries suffered in the crash.

 Her son was taken to Shands UF Pediatrics Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

 Williams was a corrections officer at the Florida Department of Corrections.
