Lilah Joyce Sundberg

Lilah Joyce Sundberg

Lilah Joyce Sundberg (90) of Ocala, Florida passed away peacefully at home on October 11, 2018 after a model battle with cancer. Born November 8, 1927 in North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Lilah was a Registered Nurse by profession, having worked in health care her entire career, including service in Halifax, NS; Toronto, ON; Vancouver, BC; Boston MA; Allendale, NJ and Wellington, FL.

The last surviving member of her immediate family, Lilah was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, C Gordon Sundberg (2005) and by her nephew, Curtis Storey. Lilah was the daughter of the late Wharton B Ross and Lexie Sutherland Ross, and was also predeceased by her sister Georgia (Douglas Allen), brothers Murdock Ross and Allister Ross, and sister in law Hildur Storey (Waldo Storey). Lilah is survived by two sisters-in-law, Grace (Kay) Ross and Dorothy Ross, and by 10 nieces and nephews living throughout the USA, Canada and Australia.

Lilah enjoyed a long and blessed life and retirement, and especially appreciated the many lifetime friendships that she and Gordon made at Central Baptist Church in Ocala, as well as in their former church fellowships in Boston, New Jersey and Wellington.

Lilah’s family cannot thank enough her Luke 10:39 On Top of the World neighbors Allan Favreau and Frances Shirrell, and close friends Gary and Neva Cleland for the unending “family” kindness, love and care they provided to Lilah. Additionally, the family is deeply grateful for the world class palliative care provided to Lilah by Hospice of Marion County West Team nurses Janice Smith and Dana Berndt, as well as the tender, loving care of Lilah’s so aptly named Visiting Angels Martha Burgix, Mabel Mayberry, and Eileen Kowlesar.

The funeral service for Lilah will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday October 15 at the Good Shepherd Mausoleum Chapel, 5050 SW 20th Street, Ocala and will be led by Rev. Dr. Andy Bloom. Internment will follow at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy, if so lead, can be made via a donation in Lilah’s memory to the donor’s charity of choice.
