Patient trauma-alerted to hospital after incident at Chewy distribution center

Chewy distribution center in Ocala

Crews from Ocala Fire Rescue responded to a report of a traumatic injury Sunday afternoon at the Chewy distribution center.

Multiple crews – Engine 3, Rescue 3, Rescue 4, Tower 1, Battalion Chief 22 and a safety officer – were dispatched to the online pet supply retailer’s 600,000-square-foot warehouse, located in the 3300 block of NW 35th Ave.

When firefighters arrived at 12:37 p.m., they identified one patient, who was then treated and transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center as a trauma alert.
Officers from the Ocala Police Department and crews from Marion County Fire Rescue also responded to the incident.

Chewy, which was enticed to come to Ocala by $740,000 in incentives from the Marion County Board of County Commissioners, opened its $40 million distribution plant in the Ocala-Marion County Commerce Park earlier this year. It is one of three distribution centers in the commerce park, with the others being FedEx and AutoZone.

Chewy hopes to employ more than 600 people at its Ocala distribution center by the end of the year. Nationwide, the company has about 3,400 employees and also has large-scale distribution facilities in Pennsylvania, Indiana and Nevada.
